Join us for ginger brew, music and merriment

Friday April 15th   6-9pm  (Bar Lane Studios, Micklegate, York)
a gift increases in vitality the more it is given

Field Exchange is a collaborative event-based artwork. Throughout the duration of York Open Studios, Suzi Tibbetts and Hermione Spriggs will build and alter objects that respond to the local environment and processes of carriage, encompassing a physical dialogue with the visiting public that involves the transportation of works between the two artists studios. Field Exchange inhabits the physical space that separates yet connects two individual working situations, and extends to incorporate the transfer of materials, methods and inspiration across disciplinary borderlines.
After the initial exchange process, the project will continue to develop in the main gallery space at Bar Lane Studios, extending the artists studio into the public realm and providing a platform for further collaboration. The exhibition of resultant works and documentation will evolve over the week beginning 1th April, culminating in a Private View on Friday 15th April.

Field Exchange at Bar Lane Studios: 11th April - 16th April. Open daily 9.30 am to 4.30 pm.

"Presence, gesture and speech transform the quality of contact between people, they create both breaks and junctions; and the expressive techniques of art are able to multiply those immediate changes along a thousand pathways of the mind and the senses. An artistic event does not need an objective judge. You know it has happened when you can bring something else into existence in its wake. Artistic activism is affectivism, it opens up expanding territories. These territories are occupied by the sharing of a double difference: a split from the private self in which each person was formerly enclosed, and from the social order which imposed that particular type of privacy or privation."
